“The conference was a great forum for Dow to share its Six Sigma journey, and it was a great learning opportunity for companies considering starting their own journeys. The overwhelming theme of leveraging Six Sigma’s values of continuous improvement and innovation are ideally suited to address the significant needs of businesses in Kuwait and the GCC”, said Kevin McCarron, Six Sigma Leader from Diamond Value Chain Consulting (DVCC).

Dow Chemicals Applies Six Sigma to Prioritize RFID Projects
Posted by: meikah | 22 November 2009 | 9:05 pm
Dow Chemicals has long been a Six Sigma advocate—from improving its operations to getting its VOC, and even when embarking on innovation.
The latest news has it that Dow is again applying Six Sigma to determine which RFID projects to tackle in Generation 1. Dow’s Six Sigma steps included:
- Listening to the “Voice of the Customer†by educating 100 leading business leaders within Dow about active and passive RFID and GPS and then listening to how these technologies might apply to their businesses.
- Dow put together a list of 450 ideas, came up with a list 50 prioritized project areas, and then culled this down to the 10 projects that would be implemented in Generation 1, a time period covering 2006 to 2008.

Posted by: meikah | 23 September 2008 | 8:52 pm
At the end of last year, Hamad Al Tekait, President and CEO of EQAUTE Petrochemicals, delivered his inspiring speech. In his speech he made mention that EQUATE is big on human resource:
On business side, we crossed one Millon tons of sales once again and earned record profit this year. The prevailing petrochemical market helped us; and our business folks, supply chain and all supportive departments made the best use of it. Consequently, 2007 will be a New Record for EQUATE in its Net Profit since start up! This is great news!
Collectively all our people, supportive departments, our contractors and partners in business attributed in making 2007 much more successful year for EQUATE. Reflecting our company commitment to focus on people development, we continued to train our employees, our new hires, and introduced the latest technologies and management systems such as six-sigma tool. We are proud to have many of Green Belt Six Sigma holders in EQUATE who will drive for more efficiency and cost saving projects in all areas. Continue reading…
That was December 2007 last year, and a year before (2006), EQUATE had launched Six Sigma. Fast forward to June 2008 and EQUATE had honored 10 employees who finished Six Sigma training and certification.
Adopting the Dow Chemical Six Sigma training and certification program, EQUATE requires a candidate for Green Belt Project Lead Six Sigma status after working on a qualified actual project from his department.
Each project must demonstrate a number of criteria to qualify as a Six Sigma project and must generate saving or quantifiable improvement to the organization.
So far, the certified projects generated over USD 7 million in savings on annual basis. EQUATE has also set a target to reach USD 20 million dollar of saving through Six Sigma projects by 2010.
Way to go, EQUATE!

Dow Chemical Innovates with Six Sigma
Posted by: meikah | 14 January 2008 | 8:54 pm
I had written about Dow Chemical here a number of times already: when they started going Six Sigma, how they use Six Sigma to save on energy, and improve processes in their human resource.
The latest I’m sharing with you is how Dow Chemical Co. pursues innovation by not soley relying on inspiration, but on Six Sigma.
Dow Chemical is one of those companies that regard innovation as the lifeblood of their business. Surely, they cannot wait for for inspiration to strike to come up with high-quality products and exceptional services.
Over at RealInnovation.com, Sue Reynand shares how Dow pairs innovation with Six Sigma to keep their business ahead. As a matter of fact, Dow combines different methodologies to be constantly on the go.
They have a systematic blend of Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), which supplants inspiration with investigation. According to Tom Kling, a longtime Dow employee who served as Master Black Belt:
“it has proven to be a powerful combination. Six Sigma and DFSS bring the kind of up-front decision making that makes sure the problems you’re working on are important to the business. On the other hand, it helps you arrive at new solutions by importing technical solutions or scientific principles from other disciplines. So you solve design problems much more quickly.”
