Posted by: meikah | 8 October 2009 | 9:50 pm

Here’s another edition of Six Sigma Companies News.
Toyota Motor Corp. said it would recall 3.8 million vehicles sold in the United States as it tries to resolve concerns that floor mats in those cars and trucks could cause their gas pedals to become stuck, leading to uncontrollable acceleration.
The recall will be the largest ever in the U.S. for the Japanese carmaker, whose reputation for quality has been dinged by other recalls in recent years. The recall will cover eight models of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, including various years of Camrys, Priuses and Tundra pickups.

Posted by: meikah | 18 June 2009 | 8:14 pm

Here’s another edition of Six Sigma Companies News.
Johnson Controls Inc., a global leader in automotive experience, building efficiency and power solutions, launched Six Sigma in 2000 as a step to fulfill their mission, which is to exceed their customers’ increasing requirements.
Well, nine years later, Johnson Controls may have made good on that promise and took it to another level. This time they’re embarking on energy efficiency.
Washington Business Journal reports:
Maryland State Police hired Johnson Controls Inc. for electric upgrades that will cut energy consumption by 26 percent.
The state Board of Public Works approved the $12 million contract Wednesday.
Johnson will tackle lighting and water conservation retrofits, heating and cooling system upgrades, digital controls and renewable technologies for the police’s Reisterstown headquarters and barracks across the state.

The SixSig Roundup
Posted by: meikah | 7 June 2009 | 7:15 pm

It’s time again for some link-loving and see what other blogs are saying about Six Sigma, Lean, Lean Six Sigma and other quality improvement processes.
Lean Manufacturing Blog takes us back to the basics of Six Sigma and asks, “What is Six Sigma?” Basically, the concept of Six Sigma deals with measuring and improving how close we come to delivering on what we planned to do.
Daily Kaizen shares how to create local engagement after top down change. “One of the most challenging problems we are trying to solve is how to balance organizational and customer needs for consistency and performance with the engagement of frontline teams in defining improvement.”
Ron Pereira of LSS Academy shows us how to deal with the seven deadly wastes. View the interesting video now!
Lean Thinker shows us the value of catching an error before it is too late. There are three levels when talking about mistake-proofing: “prevent the error from happening in the first place; detect an error as it is being made and immediately stops the process (and alerts the operator) before a defect is actually produced; detect a defect after it has occured, and stops the process so that the situation can be corrected before any more can be made.”
Over at Spercus, Peter Peterka tells us why Six Sigma will work in service environments. “The core principles of Six Sigma allow it to cost-effectively translate manufacturing-oriented Six Sigma tools into the service delivery process.”

Six Sigma Companies News: Troubled NBC calls on exec Angela Bromstad
Posted by: meikah | 26 May 2009 | 10:32 pm

Here’s another edition of Six Sigma Companies News. The complete title of the news article was Troubled NBC Calls on exec Angela Bromstad to revive prime time.
If we may recall, in December 2008, another news article had the headline NBC Six Sigma Retooling. According to that news, NBC was using Six Sigma to improve its processes in the TV network space and has positioned itself for a transformation versus its peers.
Fast forward to April this year, Los Angeles Times carried the story of a troubled NBC:
Angela Bromstad is NBC’s survivor.
Two years ago, Bromstad, then president of NBC’s television production studio, made what was seen as a suicidal career move. After losing a power struggle over control of the network’s programming, she walked away from her job.
Fast-forward to last November. NBC’s fall prime-time schedule had collapsed, Bromstad’s nemesis at the network was long gone, another rival was about to be shown the door, and NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker desperately needed to restore order to NBC after two tumultuous seasons with Ben Silverman in charge.

Six Sigma Companies News: Boeing’s Troubles
Posted by: meikah | 16 April 2009 | 9:00 pm

Here’s another edition of Six Sigma Companies News. Boeing is another Six Sigma company that is trying to keep afloat during this crisis.
Last year, we heard about workers’ strike, and workers returning back to work after ending strike. The airline industry was happy that Boeing was able to resolve its issue with the workers. A company like Boeing when it halts operations affects the whole aviation business.
Now, latest news has it that Boeing stock dips after analyst dowgrade.
Shares of aerospace giant Boeing fell Monday, as analysts lowered ratings and earnings estimates for the company following its announcement last week that it would cut production of wide-body jets.
