Developing a Lean Six Sigma Training Curriculum
Posted by: meikah | 31 August 2010 | 7:49 pm
Developing any training module needs careful study. A lot of things have to be considered so that all modules or components will help you achieve your goal.
Over at iSixSigma, Gerard Pappa, shares three challenges to overcome when developing a Lean Six Sigma Training Curriculum:
- Agree on objectives.
- Prepare the material for presentation.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the curriculum.
Sounds like the really basic considerations that you need when developing any training material right? But these basic things are often overlooked.

On Six Sigma Training
Posted by: meikah | 5 April 2010 | 7:29 pm
Six Sigma always begins with training. In fact, corporations planning to go into Six Sigma either train in-house or get consultants. Even so, training must start somewhere.
An important component of training is its content, which is governed by the objective you have for training. For me a good training manual or module should precede other action plans. The manual has to be thought out well and must indicate a doable and feasible objective and must yield the expected outcomes. The same principles apply to Six Sigma training.
So how do you design your Six Sigma training?
Over at iSixSigma, Daniel Zrymiak has one suggestion, that is to apply dynamic content to your Six Sigma courses or training.
According to Zrymiak, a “dynamic content†is one that fully engages students through interaction and feedback from instructors. Dynamic content can be obtained through elicitation and discussion from students, subject matter experts, current events and other information sources.
In other words, it’s a content designed by everyone else who are involved in the training. If so, then I don’t see why it won’t work to the fullest advantage.
Zrymiak further shares the principles of dynamic content.
- Reduce original courseware to high-level fundamentals.
- Avoid over-informing in the initial courseware.
- Make special preparations prior to class initiation
- Facilitate collaborative in-class discussion
- Enhance evaluations and course closure
Read more about how each works and how to come up with a dynamic content for your training.

Early this month, Orange County employees finished the 80-hour Lean Six Sigma training.
Participants say they developed skills in data analysis and problem-solving that will save money for the county and improve services for residents.
“This training has been very useful in that it has given me not just statistical tools, but a way to use those tools and a way to look at things,” said Andrew Domenech, a supervisor in the Department of Social Services’ Medicaid unit.

The Benefits of Implementing Six Sigma in Education
Posted by: meikah | 7 December 2009 | 8:41 pm

Last month, I shared with you how Six Sigma can be incorporated in education in terms of instilling in the minds of the students this quality mindset.
Today, I will share another article about the benefits of implementing Six Sigma in education. This time the focus is on getting the players (teachers, parents of students, and students) into the Six Sigma initiative. The idea is quite interesting really.
How then can Six Sigma be incorporated in education? The workforce in the academic industry would be the teachers while the customers are the parents. The parents are the ones that pay fees, all the while expecting their wards to procure positive qualitative results. Through the improvement of teaching techniques, teachers can then foster positive changes in the performance of the students. This change is actually expected to last all throughout a stipulated time period, for acquired profits to remain consistent.

Six Sigma Belt Trainings and Employment
Posted by: meikah | 21 September 2009 | 6:30 pm
An article on Practitioner’s Toolbox says that during this crisis, a person with Six Sigma belt training has more chances of getting employment.
There is new trend in people to increase their employment value through Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training. It follows a belief that one should if you keep studying, follow your hearts interest it will lead to greater things in life. While students are between employment they are volunteering in the community, taking the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt skills they have learned to improve a community agency’s success, and to network with leaders.
This is a clear indication that many organizations are seeing the value of Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma, and that they have confidence in Six Sigma practitioners.
That’s a tip for you this week.
